What we collect, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do about it. Written in plain English, because you should not need a lawyer to understand what happens to your data.

Who we are
Rae Forward is a sole trader business based in the United Kingdom, publishing books and learning resources about careers in technology. Rae Forward is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.
You can contact us by email at hello@raeforward.com. Our postal address is [TO CONFIRM].
What we collect and why
We only collect what we need, and we do not sell your information to anyone.
When you buy something
We collect your name, email address, billing address and, for print books, your delivery address. We use this to take payment, fulfil your order and keep a record of the sale. The lawful basis is performance of a contract, and for keeping sales records, our legal obligation to retain business records.
We do not see or store your card details. Payments are handled by Stripe, who process card information directly.
When you join the mailing list
We collect your email address, and your first name if you give it. We use it to send occasional emails about new writing, resources and books. The lawful basis is your consent. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can leave at any time without giving a reason.
When you get in touch
If you email us or use the contact form, we keep your message and contact details so we can reply and follow up if needed. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering enquiries.
When you browse the site
We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful and how people find us. This tells us about patterns rather than individuals. Analytics cookies are only set if you agree to them, and you can change your mind at any time.
Who else handles your information
We use a small number of established providers to run the business. Each holds only what it needs to do its job:
- Stripe processes payments and holds the card and billing details you enter at checkout.
- Bookvault prints and posts our books, so they receive your name and delivery address for print orders.
- Hostinger hosts the website and provides the mailing list service.
- Google provides our business email and website analytics.
Some of these providers operate outside the UK. Where information is transferred abroad, it is protected by the safeguards required under UK data protection law.
We may also share information where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Order and payment records are kept for six years, as UK tax rules require. Mailing list details are kept until you unsubscribe. Enquiries are kept for as long as they are useful, and then deleted.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, delete it, restrict how we use it, or send it to another provider. You can object to us using it, and where we rely on your consent you can withdraw that consent at any time.
Email hello@raeforward.com and we will respond within one month. There is no charge.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.
Cookies
Some cookies are needed for the site to work, such as remembering what is in your basket. These are always on. Analytics cookies help us understand how the site is used, and are only set if you agree. You can clear or block cookies through your browser settings at any time.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will say so on the site.
